Source Plant

A series of triterpenes was isloated from Maprounea africana Muell.-Arg. originally collected in the Park Manovo-Gounda-St. Floris in the Central African Republic in May of 1987 (Fay 8002) and Maprounea membranacea Pax & K. Hoffman originally collected near Bonambwasse village, 5 km south of Dibombari, in Littoral Province of Cameroon in February of 1988 (Nemba et al. 794). Four of the triterpenes were found to be novel natural products.

Activity

Anti-HIV activity was reported from extracts of two species of Maprounea.
