ENT-4'-O-METHYLGALLOCATECHIN

Source Plant

Ent-4'-O-methylgallocatechin was isolated from Panda oleosa Pierre (Pandaceae) originally collected in Gabon in the Lopé Reserve, south of Ayem in March of 1989 (McPherson 13783).

Chemical Structure

Ent-4'-O-methylgallocatechin Ent-4'-O-methylgallocatechin

Activity

Ent-4'-O-methylgallocatechin was isolated in an organic extract of stem bark that exhibited HIV-inhibitory activity in the NCI's anti-HIV primary screen. The anti-HIV activity was produced by tannins, rather than the compound isolated. The compound was previously known from Cassia trachypus.
